Dr. Keri Barnes DC, DACNB

Dr. Keri Barnes DC, DACNB is a well-respected Chiropractic Neurologist that has successfully treated thousands of patients with a variety of conditions ranging from complex neurological conditions to everyday aches and pains.

Dr. Barnes is originally from Washington State, where she did her undergraduate education in Basic Science and Women’s Literature Studies. In 2001, she obtained her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West in the Bay Area, where she graduated with the highest award given by the institution, Clinical Excellence Award. This is given to one student of the graduating class who exhibits excellence in patient care and treatment. She was also awarded several recognitions from LWCC such as completing the Excellence in Care and Honors Intern programs.

While Dr. Barnes was a student at LWCC she also took part in additional outside internships at several top Bay Area Chiropractic clinics, one of those being Azzolino Chiropractic Neurology Group. Dr Azzolino, the clinic director, is the current Vice President of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and was awarded the 1999 Chiropractic Neurologist Award.

After LWCC, Dr. Barnes completed a three year postdoctoral neurology course through the Carrick Institute of Neurology. She successfully completed the examinations leading to the certification of Diplomat of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board in February of 2006. The Diplomat Program in Neurology Certification is awarded by the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certification Agencies (NCCA), the accreditation body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The American Chiropractic Neurology Board is the only specialty certification agency for the Chiropractic Profession that is fully accredited by NCCA. NCCA’s standards exceed the requirements set forth by the American Psychological Association and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The National Organization for Competency Assurance is the leader in setting quality standards for credentialing organizations. Dr. Barnes is one of 500 worldwide.

Dr. Barnes is also very involved in her community. She is a member of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce. She has received several awards such as the New Business Award. The Grace Beill Award and has been featured in the Record Searchlight as Business woman of the year.

Dr. Barnes also works with local schools, helping children with learning difficulties are evaluated and given a brain exercise program to aid in their rehabilitation. She also works closely with the teachers and parents to aid in the success of those children and to offer support and information during the rehabilitation time. Dr. Barnes also offers parenting classes in which parents are educated on the developing brain of their children at the different stages as well as the latest research on learning disabilities and realistic expectations of children during the different stages. These classes offer not only the science of the brain but practical application of that knowledge to everyday parent challenges and situations.

 

Dr. Barnes is currently enrolled in a Masters program in Neuroscience and is writing a thesis on childhood behavior disorders and the relationship to the decrease in activation of the visual fixation areas of the brain; as that area of the brain improves, the behavior problem improves as well.
Dr. Barnes also teaches a series of classes for the aging adult brain. In which the latest studies on brain aging and the prevention of such is discussed as well as practical daily use of that information.

Dr. Barnes currently works in her office specializing in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of various neurological and musculoskeletal disorders, such as balance disorders, chronic pain syndromes, neuropathy, headaches, migraines, learning disorders, mood disorders, shoulder pain, low back pain, and neck pain.

Shasta Family Chiropractic is also on the cutting edge of medical technology. Dr. Barnes recently purchased a highly advanced machine (CAPS) in which balance can be determined with a percent of stability and adaptability within an error range of less than .0002. This enables the doctor and the patient to see if the treatment is effective and to what percentage of improvement. The CAPS machine can detect a balance disorder before the symptoms are even apparent to the patient. She is one of five on the west coast utilizing this specialized computer software and force platform. Dr. Barnes also utilizes Micro Medical Real Eyes. These are goggles which the patient wears during vestibular ocular testing (VOR) in which nastagmus (abnormal eye movements) can be visualized and recorded. This also aids in treatment of several movement disorders.

Dr. Barnes has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education classes in Neurology as well as Chiropractic techniques. She truly evaluates the patient’s extensive history, physical, neurological, and chiropractic exams to create an individual care plan that is specific to each patient’s individual health concerns.
